Jack Gillespie
Fishing has always been a big part of my lifestyle. My childhood was filled with many trips in North Eastern Tasmania in my grandfathers tinny, beach netting, fishing the local jetties and never wanting to leave until I bettered my older brother. We got slightly competitive at times but all for the love of fishing.
I started fishing light tackle at around the age of 20, focusing my attention more on the bread and butter species like Bream, Trout, Snapper and Bluespot Flathead. Tournament fishing came into play not long after and like many others it has become a absolute passion. I currently fish tournaments out of my 5m Quintrex Hornet which I find perfect for that tournament/social fishing balance down here in Tasmania.
There are many fishing memories I hold dear in my heart but if I had to pick out a certain memory that hits the top of the list it would be winning my first Bream Tournament along with the Big Bream prize with my good mate and fishing mentor Andrew Krushka.
My continued love for fishing comes from the thrill of the chase, not knowing if the next cast will produce a personal best or a new species all together. I absolutely love fishing with friends and seeing their reactions when they hook into their first good fish of any particular species. Smiles are the ultimate goal after all!
